Women's History Month: Spotlight on Maria Malatesta

Next in our celebration of Women this month is Boston artist Maria Malatesta. Maria was a T.A. in some art workshops I took in Venice about 20 years ago and I've always been in awe of her artwork and dedication to painting.

For at least the last decade, she's been working simultaneously on two very different bodies of work: Stripes, meticulously painted on canvas or board in an array of vibrant colors, and Fields, an explosion of expressive color brushstrokes that remind you of wild fields and oceans. That she can express such different energies simultaneously has always been fascinating to me.
