Guatemalan Jaspe Bath Robe - One of a Kind - Green

$140

We had these soft and cozy cotton bathrobes made for us on our last trip to Guatemala, using vintage Guatemalan Jaspe fabric, also known as IKAT in other cultures.

The traditional  Guatemalan jaspe fabrics have patterns that are determined by the way the thread has been tied dyed prior to weaving; the thread is tied in specific ways for the dye to resist where it's tied, then creating patterns when woven.  Those fabrics are still worn by the people of Guatemala, mostly as "cortes" (skirts) or huipiles onto which they may add embroidery.

We found a local tailor to sew thesekimono-style robes  for the shop. While one can find contemporary jaspe fabric, the quality and weight of the vintage textiles is superior to the contemporary ones: it's heavier and softer, and will last forever.  Perfect to wear after the bath or around the pool, or lounging at home.  The robes were washed an dried after being made to contain further shrinkage, and are very soft to the touch.

One size fits most.  2 front pockets. Matching belt.
